This event addresses the Partition of India (1947) as a paradigmatic case of colonial border-making and its enduring human consequences. It is part of the public programme for the exhibition Postcolonial?
Through a combination of lecture, film screening, and a participatory workshop, it explores how political decisions imposed by colonial powers produced mass displacement, trauma, and fractured identities that continue to shape postcolonial societies today.
By centering personal narratives, cultural memory, and lived experience, the programme invites participants to reflect on migration, loss, and belonging, drawing connections between historical partitions and contemporary border regimes. The initiative situates the Partition within a broader discussion on colonial governance, migration, and the politics of memory.
