Description

What is the place of Antiquity in the House of European History? This contribution analyses the vision of Antiquity presented by the House of European History, a museum of European history established by the European Parliament and located in Brussels. Its author is one of the curators who have worked, since the launch of the project in 2011, on the development and communication of the contents of this museum.

Even if it is part of the “museums of Europe” which began to appear as projects from the mid-1980s, the House of European History is unique from the point of view of its conception, due to its content by a multidisciplinary and transnational team, which is intentionally more diverse than similar teams in national museums. It is also quite exceptional from the point of view of its ex nihilo creation, not having been endowed with a pre-existing collection.
