Hosted event at the House of European History
Organised by plastic specialists Olivia van Rooijen & Carien van Aubel, the Plastic Identification Workshop will teach those in charge of art collections in any discipline to identify plastics in a collection themselves. During the workshop, the organisers will strive to categorise as many plastic objects from the collection of the House of European History as possible with their Plastic Identification Tool, and transfer knowledge to enable independent identification in the future.
During the two-day workshop, different types of plastics will be showcased, as well as explaining how to use the digital Plastic Identification Tool and the toolkit, a box with physical testing materials. Participants will receive in depth information concerning different plastics and their specific characteristics. In order to put this knowledge to practice, attendees will also examine a number of objects from the House of European History collection and identify any plastics present therein. Within the program, a guided tour will be delivered through the temporary exhibition ‘Throwaway’.
